#GivingTuesday Barbados

I'm so excited to share a project that I've been working on the last few weeks: GivingTuesday Barbados!

I've been following the international #GivingTuesday campaign for a few years now, and as you may realise, community development and volunteerism are kind of my jam, so joining the GivingTuesday family seemed like a perfect fit. Not only has this been one of the friendliest communities that I've ever been a part of, but the impact of GivingTuesday is incredible and so inspiring. I can't wait to introduce it in Barbados in exactly 3 weeks.

Best Beaches in Barbados

Fun Fact: Every beach on the island of Barbados, including those that are part of the top resorts, is open to the public!

The beaches on the Western side of the island front the tranquil turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea and are favoured for swimming and water sports, while the wild but beautiful eastern side churns with the more turbulent waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Although scenic to explore by horseback or jeep, the Eastern beaches are not preferred for swimming, so do be careful! Here are some of my favourite beaches in Barbados:

Sunshine Blogger Award

The adorable Claire Bear nominated me for a Sunshine Blogger Award a little while back, and it's a really fun way to get to know a little bit more about the person and the motivation behind a blog. The Sunshine Blogger Award highlights bloggers who are 'creative, positive and inspiring' and the idea is that you pass the 'Award' on by nominating another list of bloggers, who in turn answer your questions in a post and then pass it along. Thanks for the nomination Claire! My list of bloggers who I would like to pass this on to is listed below my answers.

Thank you for putting this together Chrissann, I hope we can continue to assist our neighbours wherever possible!

New newsletter layout!

I finally figured out how to customise and tinker with a blog newsletter! For many years this blog used Google Feedburner to send out email updates and let me tell you, it wasn't pretty. I've now updated it to Mailchimp, which is much more user friendly and easy to navigate!

10 ways you can give back to your community

Today is the UN International Day of Charity!

September 5th is the anniversary of the death of Mother Theresa and was designated as the International Day of Charity in recognition of the role of charity in alleviating humanitarian crises and human suffering within and among nations, as well as of the efforts of charitable organizations and individuals, including the work of Mother Teresa.

Giving back to the community can take a variety of forms. Depending on your own skill set and the unique nature of your own community, you will find many opportunities to help those around you. Here are a few ideas to spark your giving side and get you serving those who need help in your community.

Barbados Crop Over Packing List

The Crop Over festivities are in full swing here in Barbados and it's non stop partying and liming until next week!

For those of you who are visiting Barbados for Crop Over, or participating for the first time, I put together this packing list based on my Crop Over and Carnival experiences. I've got everything from fake eyelashes to wigs and emergency contact cards. This list is compiled in an open Google Doc, so it's always being tweaked and updated. I have a different, slightly more extensive version of this coming up for Trinidad Carnival.
